VENUES
The main sessions will be in the Saltire lecture theatre in the James McCune Smith Building.
The poster session on Monday afternoon will be held in Glasgow University Union Building, a short walk (within 10 minutes) from the main session venue. There will be light food and drinks available throughout the session, so you can grab a bite and a refreshment while you browse the research and chat with presenters.
The highlight of our social programme is the conference dinner at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum on Thursday evening. On Wednesday afternoon, there will be a choice of three excursions: a visit to Auchentoshan Distillery, a visit to the historic Stirling Castle, or a scenic walk up Conic Hill near Loch Lomond.
EVENTS
City Chambers Visit
On Tuesday evening, join us for a Welcome Reception at Glasgow City Chambers - the city’s civic headquarters and a landmark of Victorian architecture. Enjoy drinks and explore the ornate interiors, including the celebrated marble staircase, renowned for containing more Carrara marble than the Vatican. The evening will also feature an opening address from the Lord Provost.
The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
One of Scotland's most visited attractions, the gallery will be open exclusively to us after-hours on Thursday evening. You will have time to explore the grand halls and art collections during the drinks reception before we sit down for dinner. To wrap up the night, we will host a ceilidh - a traditional Scottish group dance. Don't worry if you’ve never done it before; the band will talk everyone through the steps!
Distillery Visit
There will be an option to visit the Auchentoshan distillery on the outskirts of Glasgow. Located about 20 minutes from Glasgow at the foot of the Kilpatrick Hills, Auchentoshan Distillery offers a practical look at a traditional Scottish industry. The tour takes you through the various stages of the site, from the grain processing areas to the quiet maturation warehouses where the barrels are stored. It is an informative excursion for those interested in how a local product is made and aged over several years. The visit wraps up with a whisky tasting, where you can sample a few different pours to compare how the time spent in the various casks has affected the flavor of each.
Conic Hill Walk
On Wednesday afternoon, there will be an option to head out for a walk up Conic Hill, a popular spot that offers some of the most impressive views in Scotland for a relatively short hike. Sitting right on the Highland Boundary Fault, the hill acts as a natural balcony overlooking Loch Lomond and its many islands.
Stirling Castle Visit
Stirling Castle is a historic fortress situated on a volcanic outcrop that offers a comprehensive look at Scotland's royal and military heritage. The site features several well-preserved buildings, including the Great Hall and the Royal Palace, which have been restored to reflect their 16th-century appearance. Visitors can walk along the battlements for views of the surrounding landscape or visit the inner chambers to see the intricate Stirling Heads carvings. As a former residence of the Stuart monarchs, the castle serves as an informative destination for those looking to understand the architectural and political history of the region.
Tickets to see Stirling castle can be purchased ahead of time Online (£18.50) or at the entrance (£20.50) and won't be included in the reginstration fee. Bus transfer to the excursion is covered by registration.
